Okay guys, so I’m using my other wild card and leaving you with this survey for today. But I had tons of fun filling it out! So that counts, right?
Don’t worry, I’m gonna make it up to you… stay tuned ’cause Friday (the day before my birthday) I’m hosting a giveaway for a nifty messenger bag from etsy. Aren’t birthdays fun?!
Here’s some random survey questions that came from (but I can’t find it now) the PPK forum…. and possibly other sources as well:
What’s your favorite spice or spice blend?
garam masala! I put it in everything… seriously, it’s outta hand.
You have $20 to spend on fresh groceries and produce for the whole week (with a fairly well stocked pantry of dry goods, legumes, grains, and spices). What do you buy?
avocados, tofu , almond milk, bananas, and the rest goes to whatever other produce is on sale.
What’s your favorite way to make tofu?
Straight on the foreman grill! then slathered in some kinda special sauce…
Vegan guilty pleasure?
Guilty? Hmmm…. I drink wine and eat bags of chocolate chips quite often, but I don’t feel guilty about it.
If you could make anyone vegan, who would it be?
Who’s in charge of Big Ag? That guy.
If you could only read one other vegan blog, what would it be?
I have the hugest blogcrush on Have Cake, Will Travel . Ohmygoodness, it’s perfection.
Were you always interested in cooking, or did veganism change the way you saw and interacted with food?
I have always been into cooking since I was a wee babe, but my first vegan cooking experience changed the way I looked at food forever. It’s definitely made me a better and more adventurous cook, baker, and candy maker.
Excluding analogues, what new things have you tried that you probably wouldn’t have as an omni?
Nooch! Tempeh! Almond Milk! Kale! Everything I live for now.
What is the one vegan staple that everyone seems to love, but you can’t get behind?
Beets. I want to love them, but… um, I think they are terrible. Am I doing something wrong here?
What was your first “wow, I’m such a stereotypical vegan” moment?
When I realized that I too have tattoos, a pitbull, and a desperate longing for a Vitamix.
First recipe you veganized?
A simple spice cookie from my mom’s recipe box. I was thrilled that baking powder and water mixed together was an adequate egg replacer (I found that on the internet back in the day when my parents’ computer was running on MS-DOS. Seriously.)
What would you like to veganize, but haven’t yet?
A soufflé. Any kind will do.
Favorite kitchen utensil/appliance?
I love my food processor, but I also really rely heavily on my kitchen aid mixer, ’cause I hate to cream margarine and sugar together by hand…
Most disastrous kitchen failure?
Pretty much everything after I first went gluten-free. I had to re-learn baking all over again. Lots and lots of wasted ingredients.
First vegan cookbook?
My first vegan cookbook that I purchased was definitely Vegan with a Vengeance… prior to that, I just veganized omni cookbooks or made up recipes by my lonesome. To this day, that is the only vegan cookbook I own, besides the ‘nomicon.
What question about being vegan do you HATE answering?
But, don’t you miss_____________? ? ?
Ahhh! No, no I don’t miss anything that I once ate as an Omni… that’s why I don’t eat it now. This isn’t the adkins diet, folks.
If you could tell the world one thing about vegans, what would it be?
As a combined force we have the superpower ability to transform any omni food fave into an exact vegan replica. For reals.
Funniest vegetable?
Spaghetti squash. It’s like pasta masquerading as a gourd. Crazy.
What is a family recipe you have veganized?
I cannot think of a single family recipe that I haven’t veganized…. They’ve all been tainted!
Weirdest food combination?
I get pretty weird sometimes… I love peanut butter, jelly and pickle sandwiches.
Is there something you wish you could veganize, but can’t/couldn’t?
I am very intimidated by meringue; therefore, I feel I may not be able to ever make my favorite “seafoam icing” (or divinity candy)… but someday I’d like to.
Favorite non-dairy milk?
Almond Breeze original. I love that stuff.
What’s one “vegan myth” you’d like to squash?
omg, please – just stop it about the protein. It’s so 1980.

As a fellow Allison (whose birthday is the 21st!) Happy birthday :)
Hope you have a fabulous day! And the pic of the pup is so sweet.
I love the question about things that you never tried as an omni… one reason I love being vegan so much is trying new things. Kale is my latest obsession!!
Allison is such a lovely name and Kale is such a lovely veg! Happy birthday, deary!!! <3
I loved your answer about all vegans having a combined force, it reminded me of Captain Planet! And is that your pup? He/she is adorable!!
thanks Mandee!
Yeah, I think I must have been channeling Captain Planet! And yes, that is Dot- my sweet little girl pups…
she likes to make her appearance when I have no food photos to share. :)
Great pooch photo… I grew up, since the 50′s, eating peanut butter and pickle sandwiches, but never tried them with jelly… Now I will… Why not? Thanks for the idea…
yeah, why not?! It’s wonderful…. !
beeeeeets!
oh, i love beets, but yea, you probably think they taste sorta like dirt, huh? and you’ve tried them roasted, right? but have you had them roasted with ethiopian spiced butter on top and then sprinkled with fresh parsley and lemon??????
xo
kittee
no, no I have not. but I’m gonna. I KNEW I was doing something wrong. I kept roasting them, and think that was their demise… but no more! I shall give beets another chance. <3
Cool survey!
i love these things…. maybe these surveys are my one “vegan guilty pleasure”. :)
I completely agree with you about the beets. To me, they ruin any dish with their dirt-like qualities. Happy early birthday!
haha! I’m hoping Kittee’s suggestion of slathering them in Ethiopian spiced butter will kill the dirt-y-ness.
We shall see! Thank you for the early b-day wishes <3
i thought i hated beets too. but i pickled my own this summer and i couldn’t stop eating them. i made them all savory and delish. they say your taste buds change…. so maybe you’ll like them in your next taste bud cycle.
pickled?! I do love most things pickled….so far I haven’t really had any veggie I didn’t like pickled. I must try this as well! I’m looking forward to my next taste bud cycle.
I found an amazing recipe for beets that I just tried the other day! Its the Roasted Beets w wasabi vinaigrette from The Urban Vegan cookbook. Even if you don’t like beets, you’ll enjoy this recipe!
I love all the beet love! I also love the urban vegan… I have so many great reasons to get my hands on some beets! yay!
the protein thing kills me. i want to say i actually rolled my eyes are someone the other day when asked. my response, “where do horses get their protein from?” that shut ‘em up. garam masala is growing on me (sloooooowly), and i used to abhor beets. took it upon myself to eat them every damn day for about a month straight. FINALLY i liked them, and now i love them. i repeated that same silliness with eggplant, cucumbers, raw carrots, and mushrooms. i love them all now. ah ha ha! we also have a pitbull – yours is ADORABLE, Allyson! puffinses!!! (that’s what dan calls pitbulls. he likes to make up words and add “s”s to them. he’s just as nuts as i am.) now i want a pb&j + pickles. question: bread & butter pickles or dill?
definitely dill! I really don’t like the bread n butter (i’m so picky!)- but my hubs loves em. Such an important question!
I am so trying your method for loving new foods. This weekend, I am on a mission to adopt as many beets as I can, and slowly get them to go into ma belly… one day at a time.
